It's not very often that I wish I lived nearer to the big smoke, but when 'Our Eco Shop' launches next Monday, I would love to be there.

'Our Eco Shop' is a collaboration by UK designers-makers and small green companies. They have banded  together to open a pop-up shop with a great selection of fair trade, ethical, organic and eco-friendly products.

There are so many fabulous eco brands housed under one roof, that I can't begin to name them all but should you need eco-inspira

Our Eco Shop

Our Eco Shop's pop-up Christmas boutique opened in Westbourne Grove this week.  A collaboration of UK designer-makers and small green companies have come together for the second year running to create the shop.  From now until Christmas Eve, they will be selling a selection of fair trade, ethical and organic products from the boutique.

BCSF was at the launch party last night to check things out.  Alongside old favourites like Little Green Radicals and Izzy Lane, we discovered some exciting new ethical brands such as Harlands, an organic home furnishings company that makes chemical-free upholstered sofas, chairs and headboards.

It was good to see that even in the current financial climate, the shop was packed.  And people weren't just there for the delicious organic wine and nibbles - there were plenty of transactions taking place too!  There's a lot packed into the two-level shop.  You can pick up everything from baby clothes, jewellery, stationery, beauty products to an electric cycle.  It might be just the thing if you're out looking for unique presents - many of the items on sale are one-off creations, and nothing in the shop is mass-produced.

Our Eco Shop is located at 303 Westbourne Grove, W11.  Nearest tubes are Notting Hill Gate and Ladbroke Grove.

Opening times 10:00-18:00 (Mon-Sat), 12:00-17:00 (Sun), from November 10th until December 24th.

Eco-Pop-Up Shop for Christmas

Here is one-stop shopping in London that will satisfy the hearts and pockets of the most particular and design-minded. Almost forty UK designers-makers and small green companies have joined together to open a pop-up shop, for seven weeks only, with a very esoteric selection of fair trade, ethical, organic, and eco-friendly products. This well-chosen assortment of holiday delights will solve many shopping dilemmas this season ( except for what to buy my mother) without compromising on style or our conscience.

Given the surfeit of goodies, it is hard to know where to start. Couldn't resist the envelopes made out of old maps of Germany with stationery to match. And the cloth carrier bag and make-up case with pictures of hand bags screen-printed on them. The bicycles are electric from Germany and are quite light weight and silent running. And to keep you warm, hand knit scarves with applique and recycled old pieces of flannelette inserts for colour.

pop-up eco store photo

Have to mention the green tee-shirt with a picture of a tree and the word "hugger" on it. And pants to poverty--an organic fair trade underwear brand that is created by activists against poverty. There were some gorgeous pillows and home furnishings for every taste. Not to mention hemp shower curtains and towels for the bathroom. And lovely soaps and lotions.

decorations felt india photo

We loved these felt christmas tree decorations, made in India. The felt elks which came in cardboard cases would look so cute on the tree too . And cards: a knitted heart on a recycled card with degradable wrap.

crocheted pins photo

How can you forget to eat a vegetable a day with these crocheted pins: beets, broccoli, watermelon. All hand-made by unemployed women who are part of a jewellery making project in Lima Peru. All in all, if you are near London and trendy Notting Hill, worth a trip. our eco shop

LONDON

In the heart of London's Notting Hill district, an ephemeral shop has popped up just in time to meet your gift giving needs. Our Eco Shop is a collaboration of UK designers-makers and small green companies who have joined together to offer you a great selection of fair trade, ethical, organic, and eco-friendly products. From home wares to baby and children clothes and toys, they cover a full range of products, but of course, we were curious to see which designers they carried. We were not disappointed when we discovered Amisha; a romantic and timeless jewelry collection with many covetable pieces in rich semi precious stones, some with a contemporary and slightly rebellious twist. Another head turner is Good One, an award-winning, sustainable fashion design company with an edge. Innovative, quality, one-off clothing is made from hand-picked, locally-sourced, recycled fabrics. Amongst other fashionable goodies you'll find BoBelle's fairly traded, handmade and recycled gifts, warm knits from Izzy Lane and gorgeous vegan shoes and accessories by Bourgois Boheme . Ethical Festive Gifts In London

Image Copyright: Our Eco Shop / Izzy LaneWhilst Ecomonkey advocates that we all make at least half of our festive gifts with our own fair hands this year, we know that some of you - ok, us too - are going to find it very hard to resist just a little bit of shopping. What to do?

Option one involves succumbing to the flashy, garishly lit windows of the high street, enticing us with run-of-the-mill, huge production line fabricated, probably made in a sweatshop, uniform, uninspired and often wasteful products at rock bottom prices. Just think of the pleasure of catching the bus home with several Primark bags piled high with cheap clothes and 'gifts' - bleugh!

Image Copyright: Our Eco Shop / FeralOption two one the other hand (and this is the one we're pushing by the way) involves taking your eco self and your ethically minded friends along to one of the many eco shopping fairs and shops springing up all over the place. Carefully selecting handmade, ethically produced, useful, sustainable, well made and beautiful gifts that will be appreciated and haven't ripped anyone off is somehow far more satisfying. Supporting the artisans and producers that make these products simply adds to the all round giving experience - and isn't that what we're celebrating?

As soon as I entered the pop-up store at 303 Westbourne Grove, W11, I knew I was in for a real treat. The wallcoverings are bold, vivacious and warm and no doubt the inspiration of Lisa Harland, the eco friendly interiors expert, who co-founded the concept.

And a great diversity of products are on offer, from soft furnishings, toys, beauty, textiles, furniture, bikes to clothes.
